Mary Lifson Hilbert enjoyed trial practice while studying law at Washington University, and she pictured herself litigating large cases at a national law firm after graduation. Her career plans changed, however, when she participated in the law school’s Domestic Violence Civil Justice Clinic. The Clinic not only gave her the chance to practice her legal skills, it gave her the opportunity to personally connect with clients and make a real difference in their lives. She found it extremely rewarding to fight for justice for abused victims and ease the suffering of families in distress.
Ms. Hilbert has since dedicated her professional career to helping families in crises. She is a frequent speaker on domestic violence and other family law topics. She has appeared on the legal television program “Laying Down the Law” and before Bar Associations and other groups to talk on these subjects. She also authored the article Taking the Fear Out of Domestic Violence Cases: How to Assess and Litigate Your Next Domestic Violence Case, published in the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers Trial Briefs, which provides attorneys with insight on how to win protective orders in favor of domestic violence clients.
After working for five years as an associate attorney in a family law firm, Ms. Hilbert founded and operated Hilbert Law Firm from 2005-2010. She limits her practice solely to family law issues, such as child custody, divorce, separation agreements, and domestic violence cases. Ms. Hilbert is sensitive to the emotional, as well as the financial and legal turmoil, that these issues can raise. She is here to help. She truly cares about her clients, and she insists that they be treated the way that she would want to be treated in similar circumstances.
